ततः प्रत्यक्चेतनाधिगमोऽप्यन्तरायाभावश्च ॥ १.२९ ॥

Transliteration: tataḥ pratyak-cetanādhigamo'py-antarāyābhāvaś-ca

Simplified Academic Translation: "From that absorption in OM, inward-facing consciousness (the reveal of the True Self/Purusha) is attained, and all obstacles disappear."

1. The Methodology of Results (Tata)

In the preceding sutra (1.28), Patanjali established the operational method: the repetition of OM must not be a mechanical vocalization, but a continuous absorption (Tadartha-Bhāvanam) into its cosmic frequency—by making every exhalation an OM.

The opening word Tataḥ ("From that") serves as the logical bridge to Sutra 1.29. It clarifies that self-realization and freedom from obstructions are not accidental occurrences. They are the direct, scientific consequence of a precise neurological and energetic recalibration.

2. The 180-Degree Inward Pivot (Pratyak-Cetanā)

From External Stimuli to the Inner Witness (Purusha)

In the ordinary, non-meditative state, human awareness is Parāk-cetanā—outwardly directed. The sensory organs constantly scan the external environment. The mind reacts to external objects, comparisons, social validation, and environmental noise. Consciousness functions like a camera focused perpetually on the outside world.

Through sustained resonance with OM during every exhalation, a fundamental reversal takes place:

  • Pratyak (प्रत्यक्): Awareness turns 180 degrees back toward its own origin.

  • Cetanā (चेतना): Pure consciousness ceases to identify with the shifting contents of the mind.

  • Purusha Reveal: As external distraction settles, one's foundational identity becomes self-evident. The practitioner no longer identifies as the turbulent mind, but as the unchanging, silent witness (Purusha).

3. The Disappearance of Obstacles (Antarāyābhāva)

Resonance Over Friction

The second simultaneous result of this practice is Antarāyābhāva—the absence or total non-existence of mental obstacles (Antarāyas).

When the nervous system and consciousness are consistently tuned to the primordial frequency of OM, profound biological and mental coherence is established. Patanjali posits that in this state of high resonance, obstacles simply lack a structural basis to exist.

(Note: Patanjali categorizes the specific taxonomy of individual obstacles in the subsequent Sutra 1.30. Sutra 1.29 establishes the overarching principle of their non-existence through absorption.)

4. Neurological & Energetic Integration

The Exhalation as a Biochemical Anchor

The science of Yogveda Yoga clarifies why pairing exhalation with OM yields such precise results:

  • Vagal Down-Regulation: Prolonged, resonant exhalation stimulates the ventral vagus nerve. Sympathetic drive (fight-or-flight) is down-regulated, dissolving biological stress.

  • Frequency Synchronization: The physical vibration of OM within the chest and cranium synchronizes brainwave activity. The mind transitions from high-frequency Beta waves into coherent Alpha and Theta states—the neurological baseline required for Pratyak-Cetanā.

5. The Dialogue: Master Shahid Khan on Results

Student: "Master Khan, in Sutra 1.28 we learned to make every exhalation an OM. What actually happens in the system when this practice is sustained?"

Master Khan: "Patanjali promises two universal results in Sutra 1.29. The first consequence: your consciousness shifts direction. Instead of acting like a spotlight scanning the noisy world, it turns 180 degrees inward. You stop identifying with external static and recognize the unshakeable witness within—the Purusha."

Student: "And what happens to the obstacles on the path?"

Master Khan: "That is the second outcome: Antarāyābhāva. When you calibrate your nervous system to the baseline frequency of reality, obstructions lose their foundation. They cannot exist within this deep coherence."

Student: "So the objective is to use the coherent exhalation to dissolve static so the Self is revealed?"

Master Khan: "Precisely. The vibration clears the path; the stillness reveals the Self. Make every exhalation an OM, and the obstacles vanish."
