Why Winter is a Challenge for the Body
Winter in Bern is cold, dry, and windy. In Ayurveda, we call this the "Vata Season." When the Vata Dosha (Air & Ether) gets out of balance, we experience dry skin, cold hands, joint pain, and a weakened immune system.
As a Yoga Master, I often see students trying to maintain their summer routine (salads, cold drinks) in winter. This is a mistake. Your body needs warmth and grounding right now.
3 Ayurvedic Tips for Warmth & Protection
Here are simple adjustments you can make immediately:
• Tip 1: Eat Warm and Oily Foods Replace raw foods and smoothies with warm soups, stews, and steamed root vegetables. Use Ghee (clarified butter) or sesame oil to counteract the dryness of Vata.
• Tip 2: The Power of Spices Integrate warming spices into every meal. Ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper ignite "Agni" (digestive fire) and burn off toxins (Ama) before a cold can set in.
• Tip 3: Oil Massage (Abhyanga) A daily self-massage with warm sesame oil before showering instantly calms the nervous system and creates a protective shield against the cold.

THE YOGVEDA DIFFERENCE : Yoga for Immunity
Not all yoga is good in winter. Too much fast "Vinyasa" can aggravate Vata (Wind) even further.
In the Yogveda Method, we practice grounding poses (Standing Poses) and chest openers during winter to strengthen lung capacity and stabilize the system.
CONCLUSION: Thrive Through the Cold Season
Health is not accidental; it is an adaptation to nature. With small changes, you can enjoy this winter instead of just surviving it.
